I was more than halfway done with what was
going to be this week's cartoon when I heard a story on NPR--often a useful
source of ulcerous rage--about the Bush administration's being defiant and
unapologetic about using imagery of 9/11 in its first campaign ads. I've known
I was going to draw this cartoon for a long time, but I didn't wqnt to do
it until the moment was right and I was ready. I thought I was waiting for
the Republican National Convention, which I'm hoping to cover. But the necessary
outrage struck that morning, so I drew this over the next two days. (Sorry,
Jen and Bina--your cartoon will be up next week.)
I am extremely happy with this drawing. I think it is the greatest political
cartoon of the twenty-first century. All I will say about it is what I have
said before and will say again, every single week until Election Day: George
W. Bush is a liar, a coward, a weakling, and a fool. He is a traitor to my
country. He deserves exile.
